Barrel Racing
barrel racer
The barrels are set out in a triangle at the far end of a rodeo arena with the top of the triangle placed away from the entrance.

Contestants get a running start into the arena and have to race around the three barrels in a cloverleaf pattern and back to the starting line.

Either the left or right barrel can be taken first but contestants have to follow the correct pattern (one side, the other side, the top and then back to the start) or they will be disqualified.

The first barrel is called the money barrel because it is so important to get a good first turn.

Contestants ride their horses as close to the barrels as they can for the fastest possible time.
